Happy Ending Jan 2009
What do the pears symbolize? Fruit at the end of a growing season, nourishment, something that was alive but still lives even after being picked, the smell of a ripe pears is like perfume and the tastes is a little buttery and rich. The skin is firm but ripe- maybe a person at the height of evolution before decay begins- otherwise the pear would yield/bruise etc. They're a little like waves at the crest right- before the white cap and the break.
There are other symbolic foods- artichokes, pomegranates, grapes- just a thought or I am hungry...A good friend of mind recently said "As I get older, all I wish for are Happy Endings." This painting is for their wish to come true.
